GUNSIGHT AIMING/ALIGNMENT
Revolutionary Putting Routine
Insures a Perfectly Square Putter Face
Over the past 6 years - since the success of the introduction of "Ergonomic Shafting" to improve the accuracy of the stroke (See below) - I have been on a mission to see if there was a USGA legal way to insure the putter face was square to the target at the setup by using the whole putter itself... and not just the markings by themselves... as an aiming device.
How Important is this?
If this were possible, it would be the most important feature of any putter ever made since more putts are missed by misalignment than any other factor. Everyone would make at least twice as many putts, even with bad strokes, if just the face were square at impact.
So, when I set out to design this sidesaddle putter head, the compelling purpose was to somehow make it self aligning... or at the least a device for insuring face squareness at the setup like a very long "T" square... the head shape was not an accident.
I tinkered with a quite a few ideas before the four, 1 inch, "see through" ports were tried. Turned out to be quite simple... as most solutions are once you stumble on them.
How to use the shaft and the four "see through" ports to perfectly square the putter face to the hole or any line in relation to the hole (for breaking putts) at any distance.
Time to execute: 2 or 3 seconds... quick, simple & above all... ACCURATE!
Fig 1: The hole or target.
Fig 2:
Make your initial setup, raise the putter up, close your non-dominate eye and frame the hole (straight putt) or target (object on green in line with breaking putt.) in the center of the first port... near the face.
Fig 3:
Slowly raise the putter straight up and adjust the face angle so the hole or target appears in the center in each of the remaining ports. Slowly bring the putter back down keeping the hole or target passing through the ports confirming the face is still square as you sole it. Repeat as necessary. The face will now be square to your intended line. Also, if the flag stick is in or tended, you can align it vertically in the ports.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Even though you may have rotated your
hand as much as 10% -15%, there will be no ill effects so long
as you hold it there throughout the stroke.
DON'T CHANGE YOUR GRIP TO ACCOMMODATE THE
ROTATION!
Fig. 4:
Alternate method for framing the hole instead of a target on breaking putts.
Frame the hole as in Fig. 2 and continue with Fig. 3 but when the hole appears in the last port.
Turn the face toward your intended line until the hole appears outside
the port (Fig. 4) and the edge of the putter body is now pointing down your intended line. Carefully bring the putter back down in this position and sole it. You may sometimes need to adjust your foot position slightly, but do so without changing the placement of the putter.
Now, with complete confidence that you and your putter face are square to the intended line... maybe for your first time ever... you are free to pull the trigger and need only focus on pace. And it just stands to reason, there's no better way to feel that pace than by facing the target and making the stroke while looking directly at it.
Uses the Same Basic Principal as a Sextant
Automatically provides you a repeatable putting routine that is so desirable for consistent putting... but with a real purpose.
a "REBEL" EXCLUSIVE
The "Quickie" Alternate Method for Lined Balls
If you put a straight line on your golf ball, I will show you here a simple alternate method of perfectly squaring the face using the open ports on the "REBEL".
If you don't have a ball liner or good way of getting a straight line on a ball, the instructions with the putter provide a simple, detailed and inexpensive method. It also includes the best do - it - yourself method for finding the "heavy" side of golf balls with ordinary household stuff. (This is where the line should go.) No need to buy a slower, less accurate "spinner" device.

DAVE PELZ NASA scientist, Golf Channel short game guru & author "Putt Like a Pro", "The Putting Bible" and many others, discovered that most golf balls are heavier on one side than the other and can pull a 10 foot putt off line as much as 4 inches if that weight is off to one side at impact. With the weighted side on top or bottom, the ball not only rolls straighter but it also tracks better. Once you try it you will be amazed how few balls are actually in balance... less than 2 or 3 out of 100. You can also use this knowledge to improve tee shots with less side spin or to increase it if desired... less spin = more distance too! Incidentally, in "The Putting Bible" Dave concurs that "sidesaddle" is the simplest and most accurate way to putt.
Place the ball on the green with the line pointing in the direction you want the putt to follow.
Take your stance and sole the "REBEL" with the first port directly behind the ball with the face as close as you can get to a right angle to the line on the ball.
Lift the putter up enough to pass it back and forth over the ball and watch the line as it appears through the open ports.
Twist the shaft with your stroke hand until the line passes squarely through the middle of each port. Hold the putter in this position and sole it behind the ball without changing your grip.
The putter face is now as square to the line on the ball as humanly possible. Even though your arm may have rotated some from your original set up, it is not really critical as you make the stroke... you will very likely not even notice it. Most of you make this subtle, last minute twisting adjustment with conventional putters anyway.
If your alignment still seems off you should spend time practicing getting the line on the ball pointed properly... It would be the only thing left to fix providing you are not twisting the putter during the stroke. Even inside-out and outside-in strokes will start the ball on line so long as the face returns to the setup position at impact.
When you use both the "Gunsight" alignment (above) and the lined ball techniques
together, you are really locked in.
Remember, more putts are missed from misaligned putters than any other reason.
Every time the putter face is square to the target at impact, your chance of making the putt increases dramatically.
A quick note before you go on...
WHAT MAKES SIDESADDLE SO MUCH FUN?
Buddy Bernhardt was the Indiana Putting Champion in 1997 and 1998 in the Dave Pelz / Compaq World Putting Championship.
If you have been to the other pages on this site you have been overwhelmed with a barrage of reasons to putt this way.
But the most compelling thing about the sidesaddle position is it always seems like
every putt is makable even if you haven't been making a lot so far in the round.
You never seem to loose your confidence.
A comfortable change of attitude.
Even on looooong putts you want to forget about lagging to the famous 3 foot circle. This "putt to make everything" attitude gets more of them to the hole instead of coming up a foot short "right in the jaws"
When you stand over every putt and feel like it's makable instead of worrying that you didn't do everything you could to make it, you automatically hole more and putting becomes the most enjoyable part of your game even when they're NOT all going in.
Walking to the green filled with anticipation instead of apprehension just makes putting... and golf for that matter, a whole lot more fun!

And, so who am I?
I'm 72 years old with both knees needing replacements. Have the upper body of a 12 year old girl and can barely hit a tee ball 200 yds. Poor green reader with no discipline for putting routines. Can't practice putting except for a couple of putts on the practice green before I tee off.
I Play on a track with one of the most difficult sets of greens in the Las Vegas area. (Dorango Hills) Now, with the "REBEL" my total putts are always in the twenties. (Don't hit many greens but get it up and down often... lots of one putts and no-putts from off the green.) As a "croquet" (now illegal) and sidesaddle putter since the "fifties", I rarely 3 putt and had always been one of the better putters of my many playing partners. But, since using the "REBEL", I'm blowing everyone away.
After my first few rounds, the "REBEL" well exceeded my expectations. Now it's starting to get kinda' freaky since some of my first customers tell me they're having career putting rounds and even drawing interested spectators on their practice greens. One, who's putts were always in the high thirties or forties and was about to give up the game, had only 26 putts the first time out. Needless to say, his outlook on his golf future has taken a dramatic change.
Seems like anyone willing to put in a little practice would elevate their putting to a whole new level.

Facing the Target Presents Unique Design Issues Not Found on Conventional Putters.
1. (problem) Shafts too long or too short.
(solution) Choose shaft length or supply your height at checkout for custom fit.
2. (problem) Shaft is too close to leg due to required lie angle and shaft position.
(solution) Ergonomic (reverse) shafting: SEE BELOW
3. (problem) Shafts on nearly all deep head, mallet putters are placed too close to the putter face which results in an imbalance causing head wobble at the takeaway.
(solution) The shaft has been placed back 3/4" from the face to balance the front to back mass which greatly deters takeaway wobble.
4. (problem) Long or split-grips too soft, heavy, big around & not far enough down the shaft.
(solution) Thinner, lighter and harder split-grips with superior feedback at impact. Mid-grip positioned far enough down to accommodate any arm length.
5. (problem) Narrow, rounded or beveled soles make it impossible to keep shaft 90% at setup.
(solution) Large, totally flat sole nearly lets the putter stand up by itself to insure a perpendicular shaft at setup.
6. (problem) Alignment guides on head always designed for conventional right angle viewing from the side.
(solution) The long, 4 round disk or empty port sighting guides have proven to be, optically, the easiest to line up with a golf ball and target when sighting from behind...
Use exclusive "Gunsight" alignment feature: SEE ABOVE
7. (problem) Visual noise created by busy head designs, shaft position and glare.
(solution) Clean, no nonsense head outline, extra long high contrast alignment feature, satiny, bead blasted non-reflective crown, out of the way shaft position and non glare shaft sleeve result the most accurate setup and stroke alignment of any putter on the market.
8. (problem) Narrow, shallow putter faces that are not forgiving on off-center hits.
(solution) A wide body head (5" heel to toe) combined with the reverse shafting and weighting system shown below (Automatically reduces torque by resisting twisting on heel or toe hits) dramatically improves results from poor ball striking... particularly important when looking at the target or hole during the stroke.
NOTE: "I now highly recommend this "look at the target" technique for everyone since trying it with the "REBEL". "I probably have as many off-center as with the other putters but now I can't tell since I don't feel them anymore and all the putts are rolling true." "I struggled with looking at the target for years because I didn't like the anxiousness and the feel of those mis-hits even though the results were quite satisfactory." "The "REBEL" solved the problem.
NOTE: If you are having trouble looking at the target during the stroke, another technique could be used. Take your last look at the target. Then use the last look down at the ball as a cue to start the backstroke immediately so there is not enough time for that last image of the target to fade away. You won't loose much of the feel for pace while still retaining confidence in your ball striking.
"You will also be able... with confidence... to putt from much further off the green than before."

Well, You have finally reached the bottom of the "REBEL" page.
If you are not convinced you have discovered a far better way to putt a golf ball, you were either (1) not paying attention or (2) you just hate the whole idea of sidesaddle putting and are wondering why you even bothered to scroll way down here.
If it's the first reason... better read it again.
If it's the second reason... good luck... should you ever have the misfortune of having to compete against a "Sidewinder"...

CAUTION: Please resist the temptation to order a shaft longer than recommended.
Longer shafts require too much bend in the left arm (for right handers) that forces you too upright for a lower and more natural ball rolling setup with less putter head control. Hard to get the ball out in front of you. No traveling problems either.
Should you require a longer than 48" shaft length for some reason, leave a note in the "MESSAGE TO SELLER" box in the lower left part of the final checkout screen.
